ATLANTA, Ga.---Governor Sonny Perdue has appointed Daniel J. Craig as a Superior Court judge in the Augusta Judicial Circuit.
The vacancy was created in late 2007 by the resignation of Judge Neal Dickert.
Craig has served as the district attorney for Richmond, Columbia and Burke Counties since 1993.
He was among three finalists recommended for the vacancy.
Craig is 52 and has practiced law in Georgia since 1979. He has also served as the Municipal Court Judge in Grovetown.
He earned his bachelor's degree from Augusta College and his law degree from Mercer University School of Law.
He and his wife Crystal have three daughters and two grandsons.
His office told News 12 he learned of the appointment about 4:45pm Friday afternoon. He will be sworn in soon and that position on the bench will be up for election in November 2008.
A replacement as District Attorney will also have to be named.
