AUGUSTA, Ga.---The community gave back in a big way after two children were stabbed to death. Deputies say their mother did it. The community donated over $20,000 dollars for the Shakayla and Jordan Hawes memorial fund. Now the family is saying what about us?

"This family was duped...the community was duped." On a day set aside to award Safe Homes of Augusta $10,000 from the Shakayla and Jordan Hawes memorial fund the Hawes family is saying wait...something is wrong.

"To raise money under the banner of these dead children and the victim their mother as well, and then turn around and give it to another program...I didn't think that's fair and these people still suffering in need," said family friend Gary Willingham with the family standing around him.

Helen Blocker Adams a local radio host put the fund together. She says when she heard of the tragedy she had to do something. "Immediately the thought was create this memorial fund and it's all about the children Shakayla and Jordan Hawes."

20 thousand dollars quickly came in. Just over 10 thousand was left over after funeral expenses. The issue now...who should get the money? News 12 obtained documents the family signed saying after all expenses were paid any leftover money would go to an organization for abused women.

"We was under stress me and my mother sometimes you don't know what you be signing," said Janice Hawes. Aimee Hall with Safe Homes of Augusta calls the day bitter-sweet. "I would much rather have those children here than having $10,000. Life is so precious, and it's so much more important to have them."

And as for the woman who started the drive..."I don't have any of my own children so it's almost like I've embraced those two babies that I never knew, and so I feel like they're gonna be apart of me as long as I live," said Helen Blocker Adams.

News 12 has a copy of all the funeral expenses covered by the memorial fund. You can take a look at these documents on our website in the coming day.

THE FAMILY SHOULD ONLY BE SATISIFIED THAT THE KIDS FUNERAL SHOULD BE PAID FOR. IT WASNT FOR THEM TO BEGIN WITH IT WAS TO COVER THE FUNERAL FOR THE KIDS SO WHAT WOULD THEY DO WITH IT??? IT WAS NOT THEIR FUND IT WAS THE KIDS MONEY. BE GLAD THAT THE KIDS HAD A GOOD FUNERAL WHEN IT COULD HAVE BEEN A WONDERFUL LIFE.

YOU KNOW THIS IS REALLY A SHAME. THIS FAMILY NEED TO LET IT GO. THAT MONEY WASNT YOURS TO BEGIN WITH, JUST BE HAPPY THOSE BABIES GOT A PROPER SERVICE AND BURIAL. WHOEVER IS FUSSING ABOUT MONEY NEED TO GO AND PRAY, BECAUSE MONEY DONT BRING HAPPINESS NOR DOES IT COMPENSATE FOR LIVES.IF YOUR MORE CONCERNED ABOUT THOSE KIDS BEFORE THEY DIED AS YOU ARE ABOUT THIS MONEY RIGHT NOW THINGS MIGHT WOULDVE HAVE BEEN A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT. AND BY THEY WAY, STOP GETTING ON TV GIVING BLACK FOLKS A BAD NAME. HAVING PEOPLE THINK ALL WE ARE AFTER IS MONEY!

this makes me sick. Had those innocent lives not been taken then the family would have never seen this money. I know many families who have lost a loved one and not recieved money for it. Why should this family be any different. They do not need or deserve the money and for them to even ask for it after they signed a paper saying they wouldnt shows that these people are not worried about the lose of two loved ones but are worried about all the new things they could buy with the money. This absolutely disgusts me. after hundreds of people donated money not only to pay for funeral expenses but also to keep things like this from happening again and the family does not even care. Anyone who thinks this money would be better off in the familys hands than in the hands of a charity that would help prevent this kind of thing should feel very ashamed of themselves. what if someone in your family were next? and you could have prevented it.

NO WHERE IN THIS ARTICLE ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT DANNY CRAIG OR HIS DAUGHTER! LET'S STICK TO THE POINT HERE. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE LOST LIVES OF TWO INNOCENT LITTLE KIDS. STOP WITH ALL THE CONTROVERSY AND GET THIS PROBLEM IN ORDER. MICHELLE KILLED HER KIDS AND SHE KNEW WHAT SHE WAS DOING. NOW THE FAMILY WANTS MONEY. HOW TYPICAL [offensive content removed] TO ACT LIKE THIS AFTER THE DEATH OF LOVED ONES. MONEY IS THE ROOT TO ALL EVIL AND IT CLEARLY SHOWS HERE. NO ONE IN THAT FAMILY TRIED TO GET ANY MONEY NOW EVERYONE WANTS THEIR SHARE. THE KIDS WERE BURIED IN PEACE ALL THAT'S ALL THAT SHOULD MATTER. NO GRANDMA AND GREAT GRANDMA YOU WILL NOT MESS UP THAT MONEY BY DOING WHAT YOU FEEL IS IMPORTANT TO YOU. THOSE KIDS SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN THE SAME ATTENTION YOU TRYING TO GIVE TO THIS MONEY ISSUE. BUT INSTEAD YOU WERE NOT AND NOW THEY ARE GONE SHAME ON YOU ALL! YOU TOO DESERVE EVERYTHING THAT THE SO CALLED LOVING MOTHER OF TWO IS GOING TO GET AS FAR AS PUNISHMENT...WISH I WAS ON THE JURY

It saddens me that people can be so blinded by money and a tragic time. As a single mother of two, I gave money that could of been used for my kids Christmas to bury those little angels. Instead of thanking Mrs Adams, Kiss, Kenny's and the community for coming to their need the family wants to everyone to feel sorry for them. MOney is not going to bring the babies back. The mom and grandma should be grieving for the babies and trying to help their daughter and granddaughter. SHE Definetly needs it. They should feel honored that a fund is set up in the babies names at United Way to help prevent this nightmare from happening again.

I'm aware that the D.A. is Danny Craig . Now my question with is that I dont condon what Ms. Hawes did but if the D.A. ask for the death sentence I feel that it is wrong. The reason for that is because it was'nt too long ago his own daughter killed two people and left herself in a vegatable state so if there is double standards in the law it should be told to the public.

Janice and Henrietta you both knew what you were signing. During this tragedy you both were very much aware with what was going on, understanding that you were grieving for the children and their mother but still business needed to be taken care of. That's when God sent Blocker-Adams and I am sure you were both were very glad that someone came to you with the idea of starting a memorial fund for the children. How can you be so ungrateful? How can you stand in front of the camera and complain about the money instead of telling the community thank you? My heart goes out to Michelle, she is a young woman who reached out for help only to be told no- by friends, mother, family and Gary Willingham - all of you will be held accountable for the loss of the children and Michelle because we are our brothers keeper. May you somehow find peace.

Melissa, get the facts straight...nothing could have been established without the family agreeing to the money being donated to a charity. That was the agreement from the start. Janice and Harriette were very much aware of the agreement, they signed the paper, don't ya know. I need for you to rethink your comment about Helen taking the credit for the good and questions of wrongdoing. She has absolutely nothing to hide, her focus was the children, and the community generously gave, the children were beautifully taken care of and buried properly and the money was given to an organization that will help women like Michelle before another tragedy strikes our community. Therefore, Helen's mission has been accomplished. Melissa, find your place in life, God has something for you to do. Helen has done good things for this community and all she seems to get from ignorant folk like you, Willingham, and the Hawes family is critcism. HELEN, STAY ENCOURAGED, GOD HAS GREAT THINGS FOR YOU.
