Lincoln County judge rules in Commission's favor

September 27, 2007

LINCOLNTON, Ga.---A superior court judge stepped in to settle a disagreement between the Lincoln County sheriff and county commissioners, and the ruling is what commissioners were hoping for.

Commissioners had filed a petition against Sheriff Gerald Lawson. They say Lawson took the money from the inmate telephone system and put it into a bank account he controlled.

County commissioners wanted the funds put into a county-controlled account.

The judge agreed, saying any funds generated through the use of county-owned property belong to the county itself.
