12 On Your Side: Viewer turns to Call for Action for help with county-owned trench

News 12 at 6 o'clock / Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Eloise Murray, 72, is constantly working to keep her yard looking pristine.

Maybe that's why she couldn't help but feel so aggravated.

"Quite. Quite frustrated," Murray said.

Call for Action volunteers are available to help you every Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The number is (803) 442-4550.

If you're interested in joining our dedicated team of volunteers, email Elizabeth Owens at liz.owens@wrdw.com.

For six long months, Murray tried over and over to get Augusta Cares to come clean up the county-owned trench outside of her home.

"Like I said, it was about 2 and a half feet above the fence," she said.

Murray says the overgrowth caused all sorts of problems for her and her neighbors.

"Number one, you have field rats. Also, if it's not cleaned out it, it floods in my yard, which is where most of my dirt has gone now," she said.

Finally, she picked the phone.

"I called Channel 12," Murray said.

Our Call for Action volunteers went right to work. A few days later, county workers cleaned out the trench.

"Well, number one, I would say I'm really appreciative and it's less stress on me to worry about it," Murray said.
