COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. -- The Georgia Department of Community Health is investigating the Knob Hill Assisted Living Center in Evans.

State officials will not comment on the details of the investigation since it's ongoing.

Brenda Ennis contacted News 12 On Your Side after removing her brother from Knob Hill two weeks ago.

"I feared for his safety," Ennis said.

Ennis says she received an anonymous phone call a few weeks ago. The person told her that her brother was involved in a fight with another resident at Knob Hill.

"My brother has definitely been in an altercation and his face is very beat up," she said.

Ennis' brother is in poor health and on medications. As a nurse, Ennis was horrified to learn nobody at the facility called EMS.

"And especially for nobody to even care and that I had to get an anonymous phone call from somebody to let me know," she said. "How can that happen, you know?"

Ennis removed her brother from Knob Hill Assisted Living that day.

News 12 On Your Side learned there was a change of management shortly after that incident. The owner stepped down and the previous owner stepped back up.

Carol Williams says she is now back in control of Knob Hill Assisted Living Center. She leased the facility to Ryan Hunt last fall. He stepped down as the manager/owner last week.

Hunt told News 12 Knob Hill is suffering from some financial problems.

Williams says DCH has made two trips over the last two weeks to Knob Hill. She says they are investigating the incident involving Ennis' brother and a complaint about a lack of food in the facility. She also says she let six employees go because of financial reasons.

Williams also says that DCH removed two patients last week that required more care than Knob Hill can provide.
