12 On Your Side: Sinking street in Augusta causing problems

News 12 at 6 o'clock / Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- At first glance, it looks like an earthquake shook Kings View Court.

"Honestly, it's a mess. It's completely hollow under the road, the dirt has just washed away," Valeria Weaver said.

Weaver says her street began crumbling apart about a month ago.

If you have a complaint about a road or pothole, you can file a complaint with Augusta Cares. The number is (706) 821-2300.

"If you were to go and step on it, the whole road would just collapse," she said.

"My biggest concern, honestly, is cars riding up the road and and the road giving away beneath them," Weaver said.

An even bigger concern of hers is the fact that she can barely get in and out of her driveway with her disabled son in a wheelchair.

"I've called repeatedly for someone to come out and fix it and all they tell me is they made a work order, there is nothing more we can do," Weaver said.

She finally called News 12 On Your Side.

"I emailed last night and so it hadn't even been 12 hours and you were out here that fast," she said.

Crews filled in the holes in front of Weaver's driveway.

Unfortunately, the work is only a temporary fix. Officials with the roads and bridges say they need to cut part of the road out because of a giant sinkhole. Officials say they are working towards a permanent solution but it will take some time.
