12 On Your Side: Local construction company helps viewer

News 12 at 6 o'clock / Monday, Oct. 1, 2012

BEECH ISLAND, S.C. -- News 12 On Your Side first told you about Lenora Howard's construction nightmare in August.

Howard hired a contractor to add a family room to her house. She planned on holding last Thanksgiving in the new room. However, a year and $12,000 later, the room was still unfinished and the work the contractor did do was not up to par.

"Well there are some good people in this world," Howard said while wiping tears from her eyes.

Howard's family room will now be completed by the end of the week, thanks to the owners of a local construction company.

Eric Burden and Glenn Ernston with Unlimited Residential both saw Howard's story on News 12.

"This was her retirement . She has worked her entire life in order to do this one room so she could retire in it. We just had to do it," Burden said.

The owners of the company contacted Howard to tell her they wanted to finish her room.

"They saw my story on TV and said God has been good to them and they wanted to do something good for me," Howard said.

A crew from Unlimited Residential began work on Saturday. Some of the crew members volunteered their own time for the project.

"We promised her we have her in her by Thanksgiving of this year," the owner said.

Unlimited Residential expects to finish the project by the end of the week. They did not charge Howard for their service. The project is estimated at $5,000.
