12 On Your Side: Limo driver turns to Call for Action for help

News 12 at 6 o'clock / Friday, Oct. 6, 2012

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Jacqueline Burke imagined herself rolling in the dough when she took a seasonal job with Dark Horse Limousine Company during Masters week.

"You can make almost a thousand dollars in tips a week," she said.

Burke drove visitors around town in style all week. Her boss gave her a check for $560 for her work.

Our Call for Action volunteers want to help you, too. They're available to take your calls every Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The number is (803) 442-4550.

"A couple weeks after that check was written and cashed, I started to get phone calls," she said.

The calls came from the check cashing place where Burke where cashed her paycheck. Come to find out, the check was bad and the lady on the phone told her that she was responsible.

"I was going to have to pay the whole amount back," Burke said.

She tried to call her former boss over and over. When she finally reached him, she says he wasn't helpful.

"He said this, this and that going on," she said.

Finally, Burke turned to News 12's Call for Action for help.

"He rushed right in that week because people know what 12 On Your Side does, they will come out and see you," she said.

In a matter days, the debt was clear and so was Burke's name.

"I never thought I would be in that seat where I needed to call 12 On Your Side," she said.
