BLYTHE, Ga. -- A woman is able to afford Christmas after calling News 12's Call for Action Office.

Linda Piper struggled financially since she became disabled.

"A lot of people are visiting the food banks, something I never thought I'd have to do," she said.

Last year, Piper decided to make a significant purchase for husband. She bought him a new recliner.

"This was an important gift for my husband from me because I knew it was the last thing I could do," she said.

Piper spent more than $800 on her husband's new chair, but just months after giving it to him, she says it began to fall apart.

The company sent her a new one but she had problems with it, too.

"He pulled the handle back and it went flip," Piper said.

She says she tried over and over again to get a refund from the company.

She turned to News 12's Call for Action Office after months of trying unsuccessfully herself.

"It was only after I called and talked to Channel 12 On My Side did they step up to the plate," Piper said.

She received a check for $877.36 just days after calling our volunteers.

"Thank you from the deepest part of our hearts because we were set to be out the chair. It was gone. It was a hazard. We didn't want it in the house, and we were set to be without the money," Piper said.

She never expected the refund, especially so quickly.

"It means a lot! It means Christmas dinner. It literally meant Christmas dinner," Piper said.

Not only will she and her family enjoy a Christmas dinner, but she was also able to put a gift under the tree for her husband of 40-plus years.
