12 On Your Side: Elderly couple gets help after calling News 12

News 12 at 6 o'clock / Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012

EVANS, Ga. -- A grandmother turned to News 12 On Your Side for help after trying for over a year to get a group of property owners to remove several several dead trees near her home.

Ellen Bartley says she felt trapped in her home because of the dead trees hanging over her driveway. She says the trees were just a strong breeze away from possibly falling onto their home.

"They were so bad the bark was falling off and limbs were falling," Bartley said.

News 12 is On Your Side ready to help you with your consumer problems, too. Our Call for Action volunteers are ready to take your calls every Tuesday and Wednesday from between 11 a.m and 1 p.m.

The trees were near her yard but technically on golf course property.

"We felt we were sometimes hostage to stay in the house," Bartley said.

She and her husband wrote five letters to the golf course over period of year.

"They never responded to any of our letters or anything. They did not respond," she said.

Bartley finally turned to News 12 On Your Side for help.

"We've tried for a year to get it done, it took her one month," Bartley said.

Just a few weeks after writing us, workers removed the dead trees near her home.

"It looks a lot better! I feel a lot safer, and I'm not afraid," she said.
