AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Longtime Augustans have shopped there for years, but now a CSRA business is closing its doors after 36 years.

Appliance Land suddenly went out of business, leaving many of its customers with unanswered questions.

"It kind of surprised me," Brendan Aims said.

He says he knew the owner of Appliance Land had recently passed away but he had no clue the business would be closing.

"I think in today's business environment, people make the business and maybe they couldn't run it without Tommy," he added.

Although the doors were locked, an employee of the company was loading up for deliveries when News 12 walked up with our camera. He told us a combination of financial and family problems led to appliance land closing shop.

Gigi Turner with the Better Business Bureau says Appliance Land canceled its membership with the BBB a few weeks before closing its doors.

"Right now, based on what we found out calling the business, is that the business has closed its doors and they do plan on closing the business," she said.

Customers like Sharon Brown still have a hard time accepting the family-run business on Washington Road is closed for good.

"Oh, it breaks my heart seriously. I hate to see any business go out of business," she said.

A store employee told us he would be making deliveries this week but he wasn't sure if everyone who placed an order will get it.

If you ordered something from Appliance Land and have not received it:

  • Go ahead and notify your credit card company to dispute the charge.
  • You need to call Appliance Land if you paid debit, cash or check. The number is (706) 863-1111.
  • Call the BBB at (706) 210-7676.
