AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- A Green Dot prepaid debit card scam is making its way through Richmond County, the Sheriff's Office said.
Multiple people have made formal complaints to the Sheriff's Office regarding people requesting money over the phone. The caller makes it seem like s/he is part of a utility company, government agency or a fundraising organization.
The scammer will scare the victim into buying a Green Dot prepaid debit card to ay a bill, make a donation or "pay a fine" in order to not be arrested, the Sheriff's Office said.
