AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The CSRA Metal Theft Task Force is offering some advice on how to protect your car batteries from being stolen.

Investigator Kendall Brown says the area has had an increase in car battery thefts over the past few weeks, according to a news release. The incidents have happened at many places, including car lots, repair shops and residential areas. Brown says thieves are even breaking into farm and construction equipment.

The metal theft law does not regulate batteries, so thieves are targeting them specifically.

The CSRA Metal Theft Task Force recommends that you engrave or mark your batteries with your initials. You can also use neon-colored spray paint to make your name more visible. This way, if your battery ends up at a recycling center, it's easier to prove it's yours.
