On Your Side: Cruise Catastrophe

Aiken--An Aiken middle-school teacher had big plans for a long-awaited cruise a couple of years ago only to have those dreams washed away by airplane troubles.

He did have trip insurance to protect himself, but a year and a half after the fiasco, the insurance hadn't returned him any money at all.

That's when he turned to 12 On Your Side.

Doug Noel's flight to meet his cruise was canceled, and so was the next one and the one after that.

It was a nightmare.

The good news was he had trip insurance or so he thought.

Doug Noel is a hard working teacher in Aiken County. It's a job that hasn't always afforded him much in the way of a chance to take a nice vacation.

"I was supposed to go on the cruise in December. That's how I was going to spend my Christmas break." Doug said.

That was in 2005. But it turns out the trip wasn't to be.

"I never got out of the Atlanta airport." he said.

All 3 flights that Doug was supposed to take to meet the cruise were canceled and he wasn't going to be able to the cruise.

Doug had purchased trip insurance to protect himself and Carnival Cruise lines had even offered to make up the rest of the amount the insurance wouldn't cover.

Doug sent document after document to the insurance company, but nothing ever happened.

"A year and a half and I'm trying to get this all taken care of." he said.

Finally he called 12 On Your Side to see if we could get through the red tape. With one simple phone call, the insurance company miraculously found his missing paperwork and he had his check in a couple of weeks.

Absolutely amazing as soon as 12 On Your Side got involved, we get a resolution." he said.

Doug ended up getting $1200 to use towards his next cruise.

With that amount, 12 On Your Side has now recovered $216,608 for our viewers.

Doug did everything right in this. He stayed on the insurance company for months making many phone calls and sending letters.

If this happens to you, that's what you should do.

If that doesn't work, feel free to give contact 12 On Your Side and we'll see what we can do.
