Augusta -- Richmond County Deputies say they've made a big bust on some folks who were selling counterfeit clothing.

Deputies say they've seized tens of thousands of dollars worth of fake clothes and shoes over the weekend.

When you're buying counterfeit clothes, it ends up raising the price on the real stuff because those companies have to invest money to bring the counterfeiters down.

Richmond County Deputies say they've been making a big dent in the number of people selling counterfeit merchandise.

They busted 12 in the past two years, the latest being Shelby Carter and Doc Williams.

Deputies say Carter and Williams had more than $61,000 worth of counterfeit shoes and clothes they were selling.

Deputies busted them Saturday at the Barnyard Flea Market on Doug Barnard Parkway.

They are facing two to 10 years in jail and up to a $20,000 fine.

But they aren't the only ones; Aiken Public Safety arrested John Gerideau over the weekend too.

Police say he had been illegally selling knock-off shoes and clothes from his vehicle. The suspect claimed the merchandise was worth $5,000. He was taken to the Aiken County Detention Center.

Something interesting deputies say is that the people making this counterfeit merchandise, who often are overseas, sometimes use the money to fund terrorist organizations.

Yes, but you fail to mention that Shelby Carter and Doc Williams got away with this so called bust with no jail time or fines.
