A new email is making the rounds with some big-time misinformation about new fines and penalties you'll pay if you break the traffic laws.

In some cases, it says you'll pay five times as much as you used to.

Imagine paying nearly $500 for driving on the shoulder of the road or only being able to go three miles over the speed limit.

That's just what a new email says the rules are in Georgia and several other states.

Trouble is, it's all bogus.

Both and say the email contains false information and should be disregarded and deleted.

Here are some of the things listed in it:

  • If you illegally drive in the carpool lane, you'll face a fine of more than $1,000.

  • If you block an intersection, the fine will be nearly $500.

  • Talking on your cell phone without a hands-free device will cost you nearly $300.

There are penalties for most of these infractions, but the figures listed in the email are heavily inflated.

There are some who might say this email just might do some good to get people to drive safer and obey the rules of the road.

But the facts are the facts and these emails are simply full of lies.
