If you're planning on donating to local law enforcement, you may want to make sure you're sending your money to the right place.

The Aiken County Sheriff's Office says they've gotten several calls from people who were contacted by the United States Deputy Sheriff's Association recently.

The people say they were told if the donated to the charity, the money would benefit local law enforcement.

But deputies also say that organization gives no money to Aiken County and they don't recommend making any donations.

The organization is recognized by the South Carolina Secretary of State's office as a registered charity.

But statistics on that website claim USDSA only gives back around 17% of what is donated.

Total reported revenue in 2005 was more than $3.7 million.

If you want to donate to local law enforcement, contact the agency directly.
