With hurricane season right around the corner, now is the time to make sure your home has enough insurance. That can include a type of insurance many of you have never even considered: flood insurance.

You may need it, even if you're not in a flood plain.

You don't have to live near a body of water to be at risk for a flood. Flash flooding can happen anywhere after a big burst of rain.

Consider this: just two inches of water in a home can cause thousands of dollars of damage. If you're not flood insured, those thousands of dollars will come out of your pocket.

You may not think you're at risk, but FEMA says you have a 26 percent chance of being hit by a flood during a 30-year mortgage...compared to a 9 percent chance of fire.

And 25 percent of flood claims are made in low-to-moderate risk communities like the ones in the Augusta area.

Quite simply, flood insurance could be one of the smartest decisions you ever make, and it's not that expensive.

"There are a lot of factors that go into it, but it can be as cheap as $100 to $200 if you're not in a flood zone," said Robbie Moore with Blanchard & Calhoun.

Divided out over a year, you can be paying less than $20 a month.
