Many of you have some sort of damage to your home from the storms, and you may be wondering what you need to do to get it fixed.

By now, you've done the most important thing and made sure your family is safe and sound.

Now it's time to prepare to get your home fixed.

The first step is to call your insurance company and make a claim. The sooner you do this, the better.

Make sure you've done everything possible to protect your home and valuables from any more damage.

Go ahead and make a list of everything that was damaged and do not dispose of any of it.

Be ready to provide that to the insurance company when it asks for it.

Most homeowner's policies do cover tornado and wind damage, but they do not cover flood damage. If you don't have a separate flood insurance policy from the federal government and you have flood damage, you may be out of luck.

If you have tree damage, you'll need to check with insurance company to see how much of the damage it will cover.

Most homeowner's policies have limited coverage for tree damage and tree removal.

Lastly, remember that priorities for most insurance companies go in line with the amount of damage your home has.

If it's destroyed, you'll be a bigger priority than if you have minor damage.
