Valentine's Day and flowers go hand-in-hand every year for sweethearts around the world.

The question is, do you order and have them delivered, or maybe do the work yourself?

12 On Your Side did a little floral fact-checking to help save you a few dollars and found it all comes down to a battle between conveniences and cost.

The middle of February is no cake-walk for florists like Susan Bone.

"Valentine's Day is the busiest day of the year," she told 12 On Your Side.

Thousands of stems of flowers have to be prepped and ready to go out on delivery.

That means lots of long stems and long hours for Susan and her employees.

"We did work all day yesterday."

But the beauty of ordering from a place like Susan's Ladybugs Flowers and Gifts is that you call and they put in all the elbow grease for you--taking your order, making the bouquet and taking it wherever you need it to go.

"You can get a custom design order that it doesn't look like the other pictures in the book," Susan said.

But how much is that convenience worth to you?

12 On Your Side checked prices with several local florists. If you order directly from them, you'll pay about $8 for delivery.

But that requires you to look them up online or in a phone book.

If you use a service like 1-800-Flowers or FTD, which may be easier to remember and thus more convenient, you'll probably pay an additional $8 for delivery.

But if you order from a local florist and you pick it up yourself, you could save around $16.

Either way, if you want your valentine's day to be a happy one, you better get your order in now or else you might be out of luck.

Publix, Bi-Lo and Food Lion grocery stores are all selling a dozen red roses for just under $20, but those don't come with the elaborate vases and presentation you get with roses ordered from your regular floral shops.
