AUGUSTA -- For many of you, the gas budget is stretched a little thin, but you still want to take a vacation. How about a one tank trip? One option is Charlotte. The Queen City is ready for your arrival.

Charlotte, North Carolina, the biggest city in the state and one of the fastest growing cities in America. Also, a great place for you to make in around 2 to 3 hours. But what is there to do?

Let's start with the U.S. National Whitewater Center, on the Catawba River. Olympic athletes, weekend warriors and casual observers share this monument to outdoor activity. There are rafting, kayaking, mountain biking and hiking trails.

If you want some outdoor festival type fun, the Festival in the Park may be more your style. It's in early September and it's been going on for more than 4 decades. There are musicians, clowns and magic for the whole family.

If you want a bit more spice in your life, then the Beer, Bourbon and BBQ festival may be up your sleeve. Held in early July, you can get all the beer, bourbon, and bbq you want.

For the NASCAR fan, you can always take a tour of the Lowes Motor Speedway. For only 5 dollars a person, you can see what goes on at one of the premier tracks in all of NASCAR.

And the Charlotte area is home to the legendary Dale Trail. A way for you to tour the hometown of NASCAR icon, Dale Earnhardt, and see where he grew up and learned his craft.

After all of that, there's Carowinds Amusement Park, lots of big-time sporting events, plenty of nightlife and restaurants.

And it's all just a tank of gas away.
