Eppicard Debit Scam Alert: Child Support Payments

ATLANTA (GA) – The Georgia Department of Human Resources (DHR), Office of Child Support Services (OCSS) would like to alert the public of a phishing e-mail scam that is being sent to some EPPICard debit cardholders. Phishing is a type of scam designed to steal an individual's personal information. OCSS does not request information such as social security numbers, card numbers or PIN numbers via e-mail from EPPICardholders. We ask our customers not to respond to email requests for this information. Please see the Protect Yourself link on www.eppicard.com for ways of avoiding identity theft. Being informed is your best defense.

“We believe that being proactive is in our customer’s best interest,” says OCSS Director Keith Horton. “It is important that the public is aware of this scheme which takes money out of the hands of deserving Georgian citizens.”

ACS State and Local Solutions is reporting that customers have been receiving these phishing e-mails throughout the country; however none are currently reported in Georgia. If you believe your card account has been compromised, please call the number on the back of your EPPICard and speak to a customer service representative (if we have the number may be good to include in the release as well).

OCSS manages more than 410,000 cases. During fiscal year 2007, more than $651 million was collected and distributed to Georgia’s families.

Thanks to Google I found this article. I have never rec'vd or paid Child Support but received a text on my TMobile phone this with read" You havce received a new EPPICard (florida) banking alert. call now free 1-866-719-3878 and follow the instructions ro resolve this alert" Out of curiosity I called and a record said my account (what account) is restricted and told me to enter my credit card number to remove the restriction. of course I hung up. Once again I don't have and "account" and I'm in Florida so I guess it is spreading

I have had the eppicard for 4 years now. I never had a problem speaking with a live representative. I noticed that I was having problems paying for services with the card even with the mastercard logo. I tried to speak to a representative, instead it never gave me a prompt to speak with a rep and the automated system cancelled my card along with deducting the 5 dollars from my account. This is a scam because it's like they know they are stealing my daughters child support money. All i wanted to do was resolve the issue of my card not working even though there was money in the account. All this card is, is aggreviation and now i cant even use my card.

Ok what is going on with Eppic Card services? The website doesnt pull up anymore and when you call the 866 number on the back of the card it automatically hangs up not allowing the call to go through at all! Should I be nervous?

They aren't suppose to charge you a fee for balance inquiries over the phone and you can request a written statement for free. From the Eppicard Terms and Conditions: Record of Your Available Funds and Transactions. You can get a receipt at the time you perform a transaction at an ATM or POS terminal. You may obtain information about the amount of funds available through your Card and your last 10 transactions by calling the Customer Service Center at 1-800-656- 1347 or by visiting www.EPPICard.com. The amount of your available funds also is available on the receipt you get when you make a withdrawal or balance inquiry at certain ATMs. You also have the right to receive a written summary of transactions for the 60 days preceding your request by calling us at 1-800-656-1347.
