AUGUSTA -- Holiday giving just got a whole lot easier and a whole lot cheaper. It's contributing to a cause with just a few clicks and no extra cents.
Holiday shopping and holiday giving, both cost you time and money. Now, you can do both, at the same time and not spend any extra cash. Talk about killing two birds with one stone.
The Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art is an Augusta landmark; a celebration of art in a building that is nearly 200 years old. A place where art is displayed, taught, admired and appreciated.
As you can imagine, the Gertrude Herbert doesn't generate much money and whatever is donated, is quickly gobbled up for upkeep and programs. But now, the institute has a new way to earn money. It comes courtesy of people like you, but it doesn't cost you any extra. It's a website called http://www.goodshop.com.
"It's a no-brainer way to donate," said Director Kim Overstreet
Here's how it works: you simply go to http://www.goodshop.com, then you click on the link to whatever business you want to shop at. There's anything from Best Buy to Wal-Mart to Home Depot and many more to choose from.
Then, you do your online shopping and a donation is made to the charity of your choice based on how much you spend.
You can shop to support the Gertrude Herbert or many other charities around the area and around the nation. It really doesn’t cost you a dime, so why not?
"No matter what you are searching for, you can go through the website," Overstreet said.
If your charity or non-profit isn't listed, you can submit it to have it added.
Just go to www.goodsearch.com/goodshop.aspx to get shopping.
You can also go to its sister website, www.goodsearch.com, to help your cause in another way.
Every time you use Good Search, a small donation will be given to your favorite cause. It may only be a few pennies at a time, but it all adds up in the long run.
A few clicks for a good cause couldn't be any easier.
