AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Before you head to the polls to cast your vote, you may want to do your homework first, but be prepared to spend some time digging.

It may be time well spent to find out if your political candidate actually lives up to his or her words.

It is no surprise by now that Augusta-Richmond County Commissioner Corey Johnson is running for District 22 Senate seat. We wanted to hold him accountable for the time he has already served in office.

"I'm a small business man. I'm pro business," Johnson said. He has pushed his pro-business stance.

12 On Your Side sifted through hundreds of pages of Commission minutes to find out. This year, Johnson voted in support of Premier Outlets and in 2011 he supported bringing Costco to Augusta.

"We had been working on that project of course, even when the Bass Pro Shop, when they pulled out in 2010," Johnson said.

What about a more controversial issue like Hyde Park where residents were relocated from their homes?

"That was one I really wanted to work on and resolve while I was in office," Johnson said.

We went online to the official city website and searched for commission minutes for Hyde Park.

While it literally took us hours to fact find, we were able to see for ourselves how Johnson stood on just a couple of issues. It was certainly a daunting task but it may be necessary in order to pick the candidate that is best for you.
