"I was wrong for giving the guy money up front but I trusted the guy," says Clinton Jones. He says he hired No Job To Small Concrete and Construction to extend his driveway. "He was going to pour concrete from the side of my house all the way back," says Jones.
But after forking over $3,000 last November, Jones says he is still waiting for the company to complete the work. "I trusted the guy," says Jones.
"I'm the kind of person that takes a man at his word and apparently he's not," says Harold Reeves.
He says he shelled out $1600 in July to have concrete work done around his pool "If you look at his work you can see that it is separating," says Reeves.
In his case he says Augusta's Best Concrete and Home Improvement never finished the job. so what else do these two homeowners have in common? Both say they hired contractor Cornelius White who according to county records, also uses the name Carneluis Cordale White.
"Yes, that is him, that is him," says Clinton Jones.
News 12 investigated and discovered White had a third business named Born Again Concrete and Construction, which has an F-rating with the Better Business Bureau.
Numerous messages left for White were unreturned. We even went by the address in Hepzibah that is listed on White's tax records. But there was a no trespassing sign on the property.
However we were able to obtain court records. "Wow this is some pretty substantial criminal offenses here," says Reeves.
Last month White was sentenced on three charges including theft by receiving stolen property, possession of cocaine and theft by deception.
"Which is what I'm pursuing," says Jones.
But he says because White did perform some work he cannot be charged with theft by deception. "He did just enough work and the investigator said he did his homework. He knows what he is doing," says Jones.
And according to Columbia and Richmond Counties there is no record of White ever having a business license. "He told me he was licensed and bonded," says Jones.
While he says he has had White served with court papers, Reeves on the other hand says he is not pursuing that route although he says he should.
"I feel very violated," says Reeves. As for Jones. He says the best way to describe White is, "He put on this character. He is a good actor."
Meanwhile Richmond County officials say White has been ordered to pay probation fees related to the charges he was sentenced to. They say if he fails to do so, he will have to serve prison time.
Officials say always ask to see a business license and permit before agreeing to work with any contractor and never take someone's word that they are licensed.
