AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Hours after spending $3,000 on a 1990 Ford Bronco, West said it is ready for the scrap yard.

"This truck was to get my husband out on the road to get a job," said West. "The motor just started knocking really bad."

She said the transmission is slipping too.West said she called the company where she bought the car to see if would fix the problems.

"He said there's nothing they can do because it's as-is," West said.

Which means West is responsible for any repairs.

Aaron Clements, Owner of C & C Automotive in Augusta said if you are in the market for a used car, you need to do more than test drive the vehicle.

"I would highly recommend having a professional do a good pre-purchase inspection on the vehicle," Clements said.

From top to bottom including inspecting the tires for tread depth and any wear.

"You can look under the oil cap and look for any sludge that may be inside the engine," said Clements.

He said sludge would indicate the oil has not been changed regularly. He also suggests inspecting the transmission fluid and antifreeze.

"You want to find out if it looks like it has any corrosion," Clements said.

He said multi-point vehicle inspection should also test the vehicle's operating systems. "We run every option. We run the defroster , the air conditioning system the heating system," Clements said.

He said for less than $100 you could be saving yourself thousands of dollars in unexpected repairs. Meanwhile West said it will cost double what she paid to fix her Ford Bronco.

"I'm deeper in the hole than when I started," West said.

But she is determined to recoup some of her lost investment.

"[I'll] probably put it up on the side of the road and see who can give me the best offer," West said.
