AUGUSTA -- An organization many of you rely on to protect you as a consumer is making some changes. The Better Business Bureau has been around for nearly a century. And, its leaders decided after all those years, some changes were needed to keep up with the times.

The Better Business Bureau is an agency that many of you lean on when it comes to consumer issues.

With recent changes to it, BBB workers like Debi Collier hope you'll lean on it even more.

After being in business for 95 years, the BBB is shaking things up. First a new logo; then there's a new name for its members. Now, they're accredited businesses.

"This makes a statement that a business has to meet certain standards and if they don't, they can lose their membership or accredited business status," Collier said.

And lastly, a new website. "We like to think it's more user-friendly," Collier said.

You can easily look up a business to see if it is accredited and if it is a recommended business. There's also a lot of advice and suggestions for finding businesses and even some warnings about scams.

Longtime BBB member Pat Blanchard of First Bank says these are changes that help keep the organization up with the times.

"Like so many organizations, I think it was time for the BBB to step up into the modern world," Blanchard said.

It’s a move the BBB hopes will help you the consumer make informed decisions to get the services you need.
