Men, women compete in combatives tournament at Fort Gordon

FORT GORDON, Ga. (WRDW) -- The Third Annual Better Opportunities for Single Servicemembers (BOSS) Combatives Tournament 2014 finished up over the weekend.

"We're soldiers or we're Marines or whatever. We have to learn to fight if we can't use something as a weapon. So part of it's fun and part of it is to continue the education for the modern army combatives program," Specialist Carlos Garza said.

The Invitational Combative Tournament involves units from various military services on Fort Gordon, also units from Fort Benning, Fort Jackson, Fort Stewart, a team from Roberts Air Force Base and includes 7 weight classes.

Cash awards and trophies were awarded for first and second place in each class.
