AUGUSTA, Ga. -- A National Guardsman was shot in the leg and sent to the hospital Thursday morning.
The call came in from the National Guard Armory in Washington, Ga., around 6 a.m.
The 35-year-old soldier is said to have injuries, but they are not said to be life threatening.
While investigators are treating this incident as a burglary, there is some speculation whether the gunshot was self-inflicted. Right now, they are not actively looking for the shooter in the area. The weapon used in the shooting has not been recovered at this time.
Even though this is a National Guard Armory, there are no guns or weapons on site because it is undergoing renovations. All weapons had been removed to another site while construction is in progress.
A local school was on lockdown while the investigation started, but that has been lifted. Investigators say there is no immediate danger to the area.
