FORT BENNING, Ga. (AP) — A building that serves as a logistics center at Fort Benning is being named for a soldier who died in Iraq.
The building will be named in a ceremony on Wednesday honoring Spc. Lori Piestewa, who was wounded, captured and died in captivity in 2003 after her convoy was attacked.
Piestewa was deployed with the 507th Maintenance Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery, 3rd Infantry Division, based at Fort Bliss, Texas.
The facility being named for her is home to more than 98 civilians and 70 administrative workers, drivers, medics and others. It's the headquarters for providing resources in support of soldier training, including water and fuel distribution, transportation support and training equipment.
