AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta committees passed a measure to rename a local bridge after a retired lieutenant general who was killed in a car crash last week.
The measure, which calls to name the bridge after Lt. Gen. Robert "Bob" Gray, passed in committee Monday.
The motion will have to be passed by the full commission before the bridge can be renamed.
But not everyone is happy with how it happened.
"It's not that I don't support it -- there are people that die with high honors every day," said Commissioner Joe Jackson. "It was put on the agenda as Children's Memorial Bridge and today it's something different."
Gray's family will receive friends Dec. 7 at First Baptist Church of Augusta. The funeral is the next day at 11 a.m. News 12 will be airing the funeral on its My12 station.
