AIKEN/AUGUSTA -- Those who have served and are serving gathered at Aiken's Veterans Memorial Park Friday for a ceremony put on by the James Hammons Marine Corps League Detachment 939.
The ceremony lasted for about 30 minutes and South Carolina Reps. Bill Taylor and Tom Young spoke at the event. Colonel Augustus Finch also spoke.
They recognized those who once wore the uniform, but also the families because they are all involved.
Across the river, at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home, Americans reflected to the tune of Fort Gordon's Signal Corps Band.
Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver attended and reflected on his own father, who was a WWII veteran.
It was a beautiful day to say thank you to those who have served, served and passed and will serve.
