AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The 877th Engineer Company of the Georgia Army National Guard, which mobilized a year ago to Afghanistan, returned home Monday to streets lined with people.
At the intersection of Milledge Road and Broad Street, a group of students from C. H. Terrell Academy, one of which has a father in the returning Company, hung a banner and welcomed them home.
The 877th Engineering Company deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in late December 2010. They performed vital infrastructure improvements and construction projects in western Afghanistan that benefited coalition forces as well as the local residents. These soldiers provided much needed infrastructure improvements to ensure the quality of life of the people of Afghanistan.
A ceremony is planned for 4 p.m. at the National Guard Armory.
