Augusta, Ga. (WRDW) -- The Hepzibah High School student who died during practice for a beauty pageant at Paine College was laid to rest Friday.
The clouds covered the skies as friends and family walked into the Paine College Chapel, but as the service began the sun broke through and the celebration began for family and friends of the 17 year old.
"She was an angel present here on earth and she would always give,"
said, Wiochelle Jordan who is Fredricia Rouse's older sister. The 17 year old passed away last week after collapsing in the Paine College Chapel, but today that very same chapel was a place to celebrate her life.
Rouse's classmates at Hephzibah High School sang songs and brought Friday night's prom, that she was suppose to attend, to her celebration. Her high school friends were not the only ones at the service. Hundreds filled the chapel, including some who didn't even know her personally.
The family says today's service maybe called something else to others but for the them it's a home going celebration. The celebration and remembrance of life won't end at Friday's services. Rouse's sister says the family has a lot more planned.
"My mother and I decided to do a scholarship for the Upward Bound Program at Paine College; and also a scholarship for the Hephzibah High School," said Jordan.
However, the scholarship has already received it's first donor.
"Fredricia actually has money in an account that we are going to put towards that because that's something we know Fredricia would want to do," said her sister.
Even though she's gone, Rouse will help others for a long time to come.
The family tells News12 they still have not received the autopsy results, but are hoping to get them soon.
If you're interested in donating to Fredricia's scholarship contact Mrs. Carlyle, at Paine College.
