ADEL, Ga. (AP) — When Cook High School's marching band director prepared a halftime show featuring music of the Monkees, he was simply honoring one of his favorite bands.
The Valdosta Daily Times reports that band director John D. Newsome says he and his wife attended one of the band's 45th anniversary tour concerts in June and began talking about getting one of them to come to the marching band's performance on Friday.
Newsome says he sent email messages to band members and Peter Tork's manager expressed interest.
Newsome is expecting Tork to arrive just before the game against Albany. He says Tork won't perform with the school band because there's no time to rehearse, but will perform Saturday night at the school with his current band, Shoe Suede Blues.
