AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Changing the world one project at a time -- that's the mission of one group consisting of nine different churches and hundreds of student volunteers.

The World Changers descended upon Augusta this week to help out the community and spruce it up.

Dillan Cash, one of the youngest volunteers, said, "I just wanted to come out and help the community and just change the world."

Alyse Malavasi, the missions specialist with World Changers, said, "Our job is to just come fix these houses that are in need."

Malavasi has spent the past eight summers working with the group. This summer, nearly 200 volunteers from nine different churches throughout five different states are hard at work with renovations, painting jobs and even roof work.

"It's always manual labor," Malavasi said. "Our sweat, blood and tears, but not only that, you really get to impact the lives of the homeowners."

This year, the World Changers worked on 12 different projects throughout Augusta.

"We have one site where we are building a ramp for a handicap lady who can't get in and out for her home," Malavasi said.

Jacqueline Yandel, another volunteer, added, "We've been using nail guns, hammers and making sure everything is lined up."

They look and sound like professionals, but it's their drive to care for others that helped renovate a deteriorating roof.

"Just by seeing good works done, people are always astounded, always encouraged, just the overall influence you might have on neighbors," Yandel said.

As they change the world one good deed at a time, they're hoping others will learn from their example.

"You know, this world is getting too selfish and self-centered and just encouraging other students do something to make a difference," Yandel said.

The World Changers wrap up their projects Friday. Their next stop is Savannah, Ga.
