AUGUSTA, Ga.---A woman who gave a lot to the Augusta community is being honored for all that she has done.
Family, friends and dignitaries gathered at Paine College Saturday for the unveiling of the Rosa T. Beard Memorial Bridge sign.
Beard taught for years in Richmond County schools and founded the Rosa T. Beard Debutante Club. Generations of girls learned etiquette and self respect from the program.
"She built bridges in many peoples' lives and taught them to rise above the obstacles that could slow them down or stop them. And I think this is very appropriate to have a bridge named after her," said Georgia Representative Wayne Howard.
Howard proposed naming the overpass at 15th Street and Central Avenue for Beard.
