AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- It's been one wet winter. Halfway through February, we've already seen over 6 inches of rain and while all this water is good for lakes and ponds, it's not so great for Phinizy Swamp Park, or its educational program, Creek Freaks.
"We always like to have more students in our Creeks Freaks," said an organizer.
For the past 10 years, this outdoor classroom has given local middle and high school students a chance to have fun and learn at the same time.
"Not only are they getting science, but they are in the creek, in waiters, exciting things happening all around," said an organizer.
And while parents find education important, organizers know the kids are just looking for a good time.
"On a warm day there maybe a water fight, which can be pretty fun," an organizer said.
But a wet winter could put a damper on all that.
Luckily, Butler Creek isn't to that point yet and that's why they're offering an invitation for students this weekend.
"Saturday is going to be a great day in the creek. We're going to be looking at the biological aspect of the creek." said an organizer.
And just in case your kids are asking, yes, they can get in the water. And parents, it's all free. Just pack your kids a lunch. If you want more details, call (706) 796-7707.
