WILLISTON, S.C. (WRDW) -- On most days, you can find Betty Harley and her husband in their front yard in Williston tending to pot after pot of plants and flowers.
"Well, you know, as much water that we have been having, the grass is probably a little high," says Curtis Glover.
But the grass at his house is not nearly as high as right next door at his neighbor's home.
"As you can see what's going on from the outside," says Glover. "It's probably growing on the inside too."
From Elko Street it's hard to even see it. A jungle of bushes block the door and clog the backyard. Paint is chipping off, and vines are starting to swallow the whole house, but their main complaint is something entirely different.
"There is all types of animals that's running in and out of the house, including snakes, rattlesnakes, possums, raccoons," he says. He told News 12 that just a couple weeks ago a raccoon chased his granddaughter into the house.
On the window of the seemingly abandoned home, there's also a large wasp nest, which Glover says got so heavy it fell apart.
After ducking under a thick layer of vines, News 12 reporter Chad Mills knocked on the door but got no answer, however, county records show the house is co-owned by 12 heirs.
News 12 reached out to many of them but only heard back from one. That co-owner said he was not the best person to talk to about the situation. Instead, he told News 12 that Williston is filled with lots of overgrown houses and trash.
"About five years ago, the owners did come out and did some of the clearing and said that they were coming back," recalls Glover.
But he says that never happened, and now, the value of his house is plummeting.
"It just a mess, and it's in the town limits. I can't understand why the town council won't do anything about it, and I'm glad I called Channel 12 On My Side," says Elouise Glover, who was moved to tears by her frustration.
Williston Assistant Town Administrator Kenny Cook says he's not aware of the situation, but he says it sounds like a clear violation. He has already notified the town's code enforcement to investigate the home.
