AIKEN, S.C. -- A day after a routine traffic stop took the life of yet another Aiken Public Safety officer, neighbors say they are just in disbelief.

Tad Boyce is a neighbor of the late Master Cpl. Sandy Rogers.

"We were able to live our life with some sense of security with her around," Boyce said.

He says losing her has been a hard blow to the community and that she was a very polite and friendly person.

"She had that sense of always being on alert," he said.

Saturday's deadly shooting was the last thing neighbors expected, especially so close to home.

Boyce says there is only one word to describe it: "Shock."

"I think for the whole neighborhood for something like this to happen so close to their homes, as well as to the officer's house," he said.

Officer Rogers lived just a few blocks from Eustis Park where the shooting took place. Just a few blocks from there, you'll find the Aiken Department of Public Safety, where she served the Aiken community for 27 years.

"This is definitely not typical for Aiken. This is usually a quiet town where not much really happens," Boyce said. "This has been, I think a severe shock for the past two months losing two officers in the line of duty."

Officer Rogers lived with her father in Aiken. Other family members also live just down the street from her.

"She would keep an eye on the neighborhood and make sure nothing was out of order," Boyce said.

Her father, Jack Rogers, owns Jack Rogers Tire on Richland Avenue in Aiken. Officer Rogers' mother passed away a little over a year ago.

"With no questions asked, we will assist them in any way we can," Boyce said.

Officers grieving, flags lowered to half staff and an entire community is mourning the loss of yet another officer.

"I think it's going to be a shock for a while," Boyce said.
