AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The greater Augusta community is working together to show support for the victims and residents of Newtown, Conn.

The shooting rampage killed 20 students and six adults last Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary.

Here is what local people are doing to help:

  • Courtney Stripling is collecting paper handprint cutouts. The project will be sent to Sandy Hook Elementary when it is completed. For more information, call (706) 619-4752.
  • Holly Foreman is asking for people to show up at the Jackson Middle School football field at 3 p.m. this Saturday. Participants will need to wear green and white (school colors for Sandy Hook) for the picture that will be taken and sent to Newtown.
  • Angels will be placed on the Columbia County Christmas Tree during a ceremony honoring the shooting victims. The ceremony will be at Towne Center Park in Evans at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
