AUGUSTA, Ga. -- News 12 is On Your Side with upcoming events for the Fourth of July holiday in the CSRA.
Events on July 3:
- Fort Gordon's Annual Independence Day
From event planners: "Carnival will open at 3 p.m. with military displays, craft and food vendors, live entertainment, water and carnival rides and fest tent seating. A live concert will start at 7 p.m., with “The Swingin’ Medallions,” followed by the U.S. Army Signal Corps Band and fireworks to begin at dark. Due to the huge crowds that attend this event every year, we strongly encourage all visitors to come early to minimize traffic delays at the gates. Gates one, two, and five will be open to the public from 6 to 10 p.m. Guest must have with them a picture ID (such as driver’s license), vehicle registration and proof of insurance."
Events on July 4:
- Thurmond Lake Independence Day Boat Parade
From event planners: "Everyone on the lake is invited. Decorate your boat. Pull the flags and buntings from you porch and your neighbor's porch (don't forget to invite your neighbor). Gather at the Dorn Boating Facility at 10 a.m. on Wednesday the 4th, boats will pass the judges stand starting at 10:30. We make way to circle the 'Ice Cream Boat' where ice cream sandwiches and goodie bags will be tossed to all participants. And then finally make our way over to the Beach Party at the Savannah Lakes Marina Beach for the winners presentation of 'Best-Decorated' boats. A trophy and various cash card prizes will be awarded.
All the Marinas and Boat Dealers contacted around the lake have joined as sponsors and one sponsor will earn the coveted trophy of Most Boats Referred. Pre-register your boat and indicate which sponsor you are representing at TLSPS.org. Registrations will also be available at the Dorn Boating Facility."
- Free July 4th Celebration in Aiken, gates open at 5 p.m.
From event planners: "Gaston Livery & Aiken Veteran's Park on Richland Ave. in Aiken. Music by Preston & Weston from 6 to 9 p.m. American Tribute at 9 p.m. Free Inflatables for kids.
Cash prizes for: Pie baking contest, cornhole competition, best patriotic tribute, watermelon seed-spitting contest. Food vendors selling on site or bring your own picnic and cooler. Bring your own chair and shade.
Patriotic Tributes can be song, poem, reading, costume, music or dance and will be judged as presented until 8:30 p.m. Pies can be any flavor and will be judged at 7 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to: winners of longest spit for man, woman and child; for undefeated cornhole team; for best pie and best tribute at 9 p.m. For more information, call (803) 215-8232."
- 16th Annual Star Spangled Fourth concert, 7:30 p.m.
From event planners: "All of your favorite patriotic hits performed by the Independence Day Chorus & Orchestra under the direction of Keith Shafer in the air-conditioned comfort of historic St. Paul's Church, 6th & Reynolds at the Riverwalk in downtown Augusta.
