BARNWELL, S.C. -- The family of the officer injured in the accident on April 21, 2012 has issued a statement of thanks to the community. Chief Todd Gantt also expresses his thanks for the concern and prayers for Sgt. Hutto.
Here is the family’s statement of thanks:
It has been in the news recently that a Barnwell City officer was injured in the line of duty. That officer was not named due to family requests for privacy. We are ready to release that information and the officer is Sgt. James Hutto. He was flown to MCG in Augusta and is currently in the ICU.
As his wife, I would like to thank each and every person who prayed for us. Many did not even know who the officer was and yet you prayed. Chief Gantt has been graciously fielding calls for us during this time and has told me of the outpouring from the public of prayers, thoughts and well wishes. This means so very much to us and we are humbled by you all. I cannot begin to explain how grateful I am, we all are, for your support during this terrifying and difficult time.
I would like to thank everyone involved in his treatment, from the initial response to those treating him. The officers who responded, the EMTs, the flight team, the ED staff, the neurosurgeons, the superb STICU nurses and the Attendings that have all helped to keep him alive and now talking to us. Every single person involved should feel a great sense of pride, you saved his life! We owe you so much and may never get another chance to tell you how so very grateful we are. THANK YOU with every fiber of my being. Thank you. Thank you to those families with “common” situations that have offered support and comfort along the way.
Sgt. Hutto is awake and breathing on his own. He is not ready for outside visitors yet and I ask that you continue to respect our wishes in this respect. He has come a surprisingly long way very quickly but has a long way yet to go. We are very hopeful and optimistic about his recovery and continue to pray daily. I am so thankful for the special people who call us family, it means so many things. We love you all and are so very grateful. Thank you!
