AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Fire up those grills, the CSRA Burger Battle is almost here. Tuesday's event will raise money for the local Boys and Girls Club.
"The teachers are fun here," said Elijah Arce, a student at Garrett Elementary School in Augusta.
To Elijah, it's more than a school.
"It's a good place here," he said.
And while Elijah is now a star student, it hasn't always been that way.
"I wasn't always doing good. I got into fights. I got a bunch of write-ups," he told News12.
Matt Rogers works at the Boys and Girls Clubs as a teacher. He works with Elijah after school and says the write-ups he used to get are a thing of the past now.
"He knows what to do. He knows how to listen. He knows when to ask for help and how to ask for help," Rogers said.
It may be hard for some of us to understand why places like the Boys and Girls Clubs are needed, but Elijah knows why.
"I will probably be at home alone while my mom is at work," said the fourth grader.
It's all going to go down next Tuesday afternoon. Tickets can be purchased in advance from the BGC or at the door. And if you buy a ticket, this little guy has a message for you.
"Thank you for letting us go there," Elijah said.
The Burger Battle will be Tuesday at the Hagler Club, which is on Division Street. Check out bgccsra.org for more details and how to buy tickets.
