AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Saturday night was a grand slam at the GreenJackets stadium for Miracle League Day as children and young adults with disabilities got the chance to play in the big league.

Batting, throwing and scoring, the kids did it all.

"I played really well," said Miracle League player Lauren Frick.

It's all part of the Miracle League, a baseball league for children and young adults with disabilities.

"The focus of this league is just fun just getting these kids out to play some baseball," said J.D. McCauley, program director at the YMCA. "They don't usually have as many opportunities as the rest of us."

The YMCA and the Miracle League are trying to change that, giving the kids a safe and fun environment to play sports.

"I've been playing for like a year and a half almost," Frick said.

Saturday truly was a miracle for many of these kids.

"[It was great] being here tonight, get[ting] to play with the GreenJackets," Frick said.

GreenJackets coaches and players lined the field, pitching, cheering, signing balls and taking pictures.

"The GreenJackets are local heroes so they wanted to get out here and play with them more than anything," McCauley said.

Corbin Mckenzie is the team's coach and is also physically challenged. He says those challenges face all these kids every day, but not out on the field.

"They get to forget about the chair for a little while," Mckenzie said.

For him, seeing the smiles on everyone's faces makes him forget about his own disabilities.

"It wasn't about me today," he said. "It was about the kids, and they had a blast."

That's exactly what the Miracle League does -- gives all of these kids an opportunity to have some fun.

"Any opportunity we can provide these kids and adults is what we're all about," McCauley said.

Twenty-four players showed up to play in the game Saturday. They have 60 in the league in total, but the heat kept a few away. The Miracle League has been in Augusta for the past two years, but this is the first time they've gotten to play on the GreenJackets field with the players.
