Bugs invading homes across CSRA

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- It's something that makes Mary Griffin's skin crawl.

"There was one on my kitchen counter," she explained. "If I see one of those, then I start to panic a little bit."

A problem that isn't going away anytime soon.

"Those big American cockroaches come in a lot when there's bad weather," she said.

We've had plenty of it, and it's sending them crawling into places you don't want them.

"We sprayed the house, the exterior of the house, to create that barrier so they wouldn't come through," she said.

But Griffin still has something that's bugging her -- the fear that they'll break through and invade her house.

"I know it's those little red German cockroaches that are going to get in there and multiply," she said.

And if you're one of those bugs, Rob Hebbard isn't who you want to see.

Since the rain, his business has increased almost 30 percent.

"They impacted a lot of homeowners, a lot of people are seeing a lot of things they're not used to seeing," Hebbard said.

Calls are coming more often so people don't have to see these bugs anymore.

But Hebbard says you have to begin by taking the bug fight outside.

"Any type of foliage that is rotting, that's what they eat," he said.

And they'll soon work their way toward your windows and doors.

"Look around for any crack or crevice where they can slip up under and weasel into the house," Hebbard said. "You have to think like a bug and think about how would I get in this house."

It's something Griffin says she'll start doing from now on.

"I don't even like them in my yard, but I definitely don't want them in my house," she said.
