FORT BENNING, Ga. (AP) -- An Army brigade has returned to Georgia after a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan.

Family and friends gathered Saturday at Lawson Army Airfield to welcome home the 648th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade to Fort Benning.

The 125 soldiers in the Columbus-based National Guard unit provided security and support at Camp Phoenix in Kabul during their tour overseas.

Sgt. Marcel Nalls told the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer he was "elated, beyond excited" to be home.
