AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Whether you're looking to buy or sell a home, everyone is looking for a deal.
While pricing is important, it's not the only aspect you should ask about.
The key to getting a good deal in the housing market is to ask real estate agents the right questions.
When selling a home, you want to ask how the agent is going to price your home. Also ask about their marketing plan and whether your home is even ready to sell.
For home buyers, ask how long the house has been on the market. The longer on the market, the more chance the seller may lower the price. Also look into the agent's sales history and experience level.
Finally, ask yourself ... what do you want?
"First and foremost, the homeowner should start with the end in mind. So, if they are thinking they want to buy a house that they are going to be in for three years, five years, 10 years of something else, they need to stay with that goal in mind, work their way backwards so then they can figure out what the best property is for them," said Tony Markus, a real estate agent.
When buying or selling, make sure to check an agent's references and reviews.
This may seem like common sense, but make sure you get along with an agent. You want your goals to be in line with how the agent does business.
