AUGUSTA, Ga. -- You have probably started making your plans for the New Year, but we wanted to find out what your community has planned for you.
For some, that means more jobs, more construction and more business.
In Jenkins County, a new prison that's been in the works for quite some time will open its doors.
"By somewhere around March 10, we'll get our first prisoner," said Millen Mayor King Rocker.
It'll put 220 people to work. Just a few miles down, land is being cleared for another building. Millen hopes to get a permit in March and break ground soon after on the Carbo Ceramics building.
Just up the road in Burke County, progress is being made as well.
"We'll begin receiving things like the condenser in the first quarter of 2012," said Todd Terrell with Southern Company.
Work on Plant Vogtle reactors 3 and 4 is making progress and while you won't see the finished product until at least 2016, the NRC approved the design plan in December.
In McDuffie County, a local hospital has been struggling to pay the bills. An agreement between University Hospital and McDuffie County Regional is still in legal talks, but University Hospital says they hope to take over things fully by spring.
Across the river, Aiken County is expecting 850 jobs -- the single largest investment in the state. Bridgestone's expansion is already underway, taking applications now, and is set to be fully operating by 2013.
Another big job announcement that resonated in the area was another Masonite International Corporation in Denmark. It's also expected to start operating by 2013.
In Barnwell, A&K Textiles is coming, too.
"2012 is when you're going to see these job opportunities really come to fruition and people start getting a chance to go back to work," Barnwell County EDC Marty Martin said.
The Jefferson County administrator told us they have some employers showing interest in the county, which could mean jobs. In Wilkes County the say 2012 will bring the completion of courthouse renovations and jobs through a new casket company coming to town.
In Richmond County, you have the sheriff's new administration building and the TEE Center that are expected to be completed this year.
Edgefield County has proposed construction on a new animal shelter.
