Laney Museum features golf exhibit

AUGUSTA---The Lucy Laney Museum is featuring an exhibit about the role of African-Americans in golf. Today the museum got set up for the show.

Black caddies were a big part of history in the Masters Tournament. Caddie Willie Peterson helped Jack Nicklaus win his first five Masters titles.

Today, only a few black caddies work the PGA Tour.

"We're trying to add a little historical perspective as it relates to the African-American presence in golf, from all different levels," said historian Corey Rogers. "From the caddy level to the golf arena. But we also want people to appreciate the artwork."

The exhibit features artwork from Samuel Barnes, a local self-taught artist.

You can check it all out at the Lucy Craft Laney Museum on Phillips Street. The exhibit officially opens Monday, April 5 and runs through May 31.
